Financial Autonomy for Local Government Councils
The Supreme Court of Nigeria ruled that it is unconstitutional for State Governments to withhold funds meant for Local Government Areas (LGAs). Federation allocation funds must be paid directly to LGA accounts.
Decentralization of the Power Sector (Electricity Act)
The amendment removed electricity generation, transmission, and distribution from the Exclusive List to the Concurrent List, allowing State Governments to license private investors and form independent electricity boards.
